Update the theme via  FTP if you have a translation file done in wpresidence/languages or add the language files in child theme before updating via wp-admin .

Help : http://help.wpresidence.net/2016/01/15/how-to-add-translated-po-files-in-child-theme/

———————-

Download the theme again from the Theme Forest account, where you initially purchased it. The download will be under your buyer account – Downloads. Download only “Installable WordPress file only”

Update the theme via wp-admin WITH BACKUP done via FTP:

Access your website via FTP and rename previous theme from wpresidence to wpresidence_old in path wp-content/themes

Then via wp-admin – themes – add the zip from your download – “Installable WordPress file only” and install it.

Next – if you had any special modifications done in the previous theme version you can copy from wpresidence_old backup to new wpresidence folder. But we would strongly recommend to use child theme for changes.

 ———————-

To update the theme via wp-admin WITHOUT BACKUP:

Go to Admin – Themes and delete the current theme (you can delete the theme only if you activate a different one, then delete it).

IMPORTANT: all your theme settings will NOT change during this process. But the language files (in wprentals/languages) folder and any other code changes you had done directly the wprentals theme folder will be deleted if you choose this method. But we would strongly recommend using child theme for changes to manage changes in code separately from theme update.

Then via wp-admin – themes – add the zip from your download – “Installable WordPress file only” and install it.

Activate is. That should be all.

TO UPDATE THE THEME VIA FTP FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

If you cannot upload the theme via admin, check with hosting to increase your upload limits as recommended here – http://help.wpresidence.net/2017/01/05/theme-wordpress-server-requirements/

Still, if you wish to update the theme via FTP follow these steps.

Unzip the File downloaded from theme forest – downloads. You will have folder wpresidence

Login to your FTP account and navigate to your WordPress Installation directory

Navigate to the folder /wp-content/themes

Replace the “wpresidence” folder from FTP with the wpresidence folder from the un-zipped theme pack

When notified if you want to overwrite files, choose ’YES’ to all.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you don’t copy theme inside theme or you’ll have issues using the theme.
